Hall\nTrack: Participation & Social Equality\nPrimary education in Sub-Saharan Africa faces a critical shortage of teachers estimated at 25 million (UNESCO\, 2015) with many teachers receiving little or no training. Given this urgent challenge\, Open Educational Resources (OER) are one way to fill the teacher professional development skills gap to ensure that teachers have access to quality materials that support their classroom practice in diverse learning environments. The importance of teachers’ professional development is given further prominence through a specific Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4.c)\, which aims by 2030 to substantially increase the supply of qualified teachers\, including through international cooperation\, for teacher training in developing countries to ensure inclusive and quality education for all.\n\nThrough individual interviews with primary teacher participants in Ghana\, this pilot study seeks to understand to what extent teachers’ use\, adapt and share OER for their own professional development and what conditions encourage and support them to make use of OER in schools. Secondly it will explore whether the challenges to do so can be lessened through better OER design and structure or models of use.
