Description
Open Educational Resources (OER) could prove to play an increasingly important role in Higher Education, yet there is little awareness in the mainstream German-speaking academic landscape. Open Education Austria is the name of a recently initiated collaboration between four Austrian universities (the Universities of Vienna, Graz, Innsbruck and the Graz University of Technology) with a strong focus on promoting the use of OER in institutions of Higher Education. One segment of this project is dedicated to the distribution of information as well as qualification measures among the target population of university lecturers. In this lightning talk, we would like to present a strategic concept that was developed in order to reach a significant number of the intended group in a meaningful yet efficient way, so that they are provided with both information and training on the use and creation of OER as well as an incentive to put this new knowledge into practice. The main components of our approach consist of informative seminars at three different university locations, followed by a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) and subsequently a one-day OER festival, where all the participants are invited to meet in the capital city in order to network, share experiences, and attend further workshops on the practical aspects of creating OER. With this strategy, we hope to achieve a substantial degree of dissemination for the concept and applications of OER at universities, and we should already be able to share some experiences and lessons learned at the time of OER17.
